PVC or Hypalon tubes: which should you choose?

The tubes are what makes a RIB a RIB. Both fabrics we offer are 1.2 mm thick and built with 5 independent air chambers, but they age differently in sun, salt and hard use.

What the tubes do

The tubes give the boat its buoyancy and stability, absorb impacts when you come alongside and keep spray out of the cockpit. Because they are divided into five chambers, the boat stays afloat and controllable even if one chamber is damaged.

Reinforced PVC, 1.2 mm

PVC is welded rather than glued, which makes very clean, strong seams and keeps the price down. It is light, easy to clean and repairs well. In strong sun and heat it ages faster than Hypalon, so a cover in summer makes a real difference.

Orca Hypalon™, 1.2 mm

Hypalon is a synthetic rubber coated fabric. The seams are bonded by hand in climate controlled rooms. It resists UV, heat, fuel and abrasion very well, and with normal care a service life of more than 20 years is realistic. It is the usual choice for boats that live in the sun or work hard every day.
